The straight shooters are in the dirt
The summer rains expose old stuff in the barrio -- buttons, coins, tokens and marbles -- lots of marbles. At one time it was almost impossible to walk into my backyard without finding a marble. I still find a couple of them every month as I wander around downtown.
The most delightful ones are made of clay, and they must have been handmade because they are rarely truly round. A straight-shooter is valuable in a game of marbles, so it must have been hard to win with a lop-sided ball of clay.
