This is as good as it gets for a sense of place, Tucson style
Sorry I could not get a shaper picture, but these badgers are way up high. They are on the cornice around the west side of Tucson High School, built in 1924 and designed by Henry Jaastad. I love things that have a sense of place, and I cannot imagine a high school that better incorporates its mascot. Can anyone tell me why Tucson High chose the badger? We had badgers in Southern Arizona, but there could not have been many left in by 1924. Real badgers were re-introduced to the San Pedro River southeast of Tucson 20 or so years ago. I hope they are thriving.
