Where few dare to live: Surrounded by purple

Central Tucson is full of pink buildings, including the wonderful Arizona Inn. But there's not much purple even though our morning and evening skies are awash in shades of violet, magenta and lavender. Why?

Many of the photos posted here, including the one right above, were taken just east of the Arizona Inn in the Blenman-Elm neighborhood. Purple seems to be the accent color of choice in that area.
